Bowen Therapy

Bowen therapy is a gentle hands-on treatment that works with the nervous system to stimulate the body to heal itself.  The patient rests comfortably on a treatment table while the practitioner applies a sequence of moves to various muscle groups.  These specific moves relay information back to the central nervous system “resetting” the nervous signal pathway – like rebooting a computer that isn’t responding well, and in doing so they break the pain loop and allow muscles to resume their appropriate length and tension (being neither contracted nor stretched).  This in turn allows bones, ligaments, and tendons to align and function properly without undue strain or pain.

Bowen therapy has been used successfully to treat various types of both chronic and acute pain (back, neck, limbs, sports injuries, trauma), digestive concerns, menstrual and hormone imbalances, respiratory problems including asthma, allergies, and colds, and nervous system imbalances including anxiety and insomnia.  It is an excellent therapy for infants with colic, reflux, umbilical hernia, or to help settle fractious nervous systems during teething.  Treatments are timed one week apart and typically last 20-40 minutes.  For chronic conditions best results are usually seen after 3-5 treatments.
